Kim's Hope

Kim's diary

Kim Hiltz was 27 years old when she discovered a lump in her breast. "You're too young," the doctors said. "Don't worry." But eight months and several tests later the diagnosis was clear: breast cancer. For Kim, it was the beginning of an unexpected journey. That was four years ago, in March 2001. Kim, a native New Brunswicker, had recently moved to Toronto from Fredericton to be with her new love, Chris. Kim was building her career in marketing and a new life in Toronto. It didn't seem like cancer could be a part of so many new beginnings, and certainly not at age 27. Over the next year Kim underwent a series of treatments in Toronto: surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. "I was young and healthy apart from the cancer," Kim says looking back, "And treatment was expected to be effective. We thought that would be the end of it." Read the rest of Kim's story... Kim's Update September 26, 2005 Hello everyone, Well hurricane Rita is now in the northern states and Houston is getting back to normal life. We were very lucky in the Houston area, as Rita landed in the eastern most part of Texas and caused only minimal damage to this city. Our condo has no damage and we have electricity and clean water. Even a hurricane can't keep Kim down. Kim has made remarkable improvements this week. She is feeling better and better each day and is looking forward to being discharged from the hospital within the next week. Kim and I will remain in Houston until the end of October, as Kim must make daily visits to MD Anderson. I will keep you updated on any further progress.
